What is oil paint made of? It is made of linseed oil or safflower, with dry pigment.
What are the three benefits of painting with oil paints? It has varied applications, a nice color depth range, and consistency.
What are three disadvantages to painting with oil paints? It takes time to dry paint, can't see many details of it and it the odor of it is too strong.
Why do you need to prime your surface before painting with oil paints? So that it will give the oil paint a smoother surface and flow better.
How do you clean up your brushes and equipment after using oil paints? By using a water as a solvent with 2 different parts; the dirty and the clean solvent to clean your paint brush in a proper way. Lastly, dip it in the safflower oil to get it more effectively clean.
- What is impasto technique? Paint that is applied to a canvas or panel in quantities that make it stand out from the surface
What is “Imprimatura” or “grisaille” in painting? It is so lightly applied that it becomes a transparent layer that allows the white background underneath to show through.
What interesting facts did you find out about oil painting? That it would take some time to dry unlike the acrylic one and that it needed a prime surface which I find very interesting to do.
